My Brother's Country Home
By Teetle Mcbride
I'd been wanting to try my hand at using a chainsaw for some time.
When I visited my brother and his family in the country, I slipped off one afternoon to the the tool shed. There I found my father's old saw. I figured it was neither his property nor mine, so I cranked it without guilt. Before long I was roaming my brother's property, searching for a tree in need of service. His trees were healthy, so I improvised.
Next thing I know, this young tree was down, I'd killed it and had no excuse.
I needed to hide the evidence. The first plan that came to mind was to chop the tree into logs and surprise my brother and his wife with a fire. I went with it.
I shuttled some logs into the house, placed them in the fireplace, and went back outside for the rest of the tree. The remaining logs I placed along side the house in an orderly pyramid. Then, I rushed back inside and began the long task of trying to light the wood. Ultimately, I resorted to lighter fluid. The smoke was aweful. No complaints from my brother's wife, however. She was high on prescription pain killers the whole time I was there.
Fuck the both of them anyway. If they have a problem with a fallen tree, their priorities are horribly misplaced.
