It lives still, this branch, this tree. In the last light of the day, when the shadows are long against the fields, I put blade to bark. |
|
Once separated from the tree, the limbs bleed. They drip on my gloves, my pants, my shoes. The branches, fresh and damp, must be cut if they are to be reborn anew. |
|
For though the life they led is over, my blade gives them a new, albeit brief, existence. |
|
And where once they produced oxygen, now they produce heat. |
